PRESS RELEASE FROM LIAM BYRNE MP
Liam Byrne welcomes breakthrough for Britain's innocent victims of booze
Liam Byrne, the founder and chair of the cross-party group in parliament for children of alcoholics, today hailed the government's announcement of a £6 million package of help for Britain's innocent victims of booze - the children of parents who drink too much.
Today sees the launch of the first ever manifesto for children of alcoholics at the House of Commons.
The hard-hitting manifesto, published to coincide with International Children of Alcoholics Week, sets out a 10-point plan to help Britain’s 2.6 million innocent victims of drink – the children of hard-drinking parents.
In case you missed it, I wanted to share with you some of the BBC Newsbeat coverage on children of alcoholics.
BBC Newsbeat were very kind to cover our campaign launch here in Parliament. Newsbeat were contacted by so many people during the coverage of the campaign launch that they decided to run a special programme dedicated entirely to children of alcoholics. You can listen to the programme here.
This morning I featured in a piece on the Lorraine Show on ITV talking about our campaign to support Children of Alcoholics.
You can watch the piece which includes an interview with Calum Best sharing his story about life as the child of an alcoholic on my Facebook page here.
All the best,
