Our community is one of the poorest in Britain and over the summer I am updating my research into the causes of poverty and low income.

I am looking for people to interview who have a household income of £13,000 a year or less.

The telephone interview will be strictly confidential and will be undertaken by my senior researcher Erik Cummins. It will take about 30-45 minutes.

I am in Strasbourg this week taking part in the UK delegation to the Council of Europe. Although this means I wasn't able to take part in this morning's important Westminster Hall debate on Unaccompanied Children in Parliament. Instead, I've just made the following speech to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, you can read the full text below.

Today I was interviewed on BBC Breakfast as part of the cross-party campaign to support the children of alcoholics.

Dear friends,

Three of our secondary schools in Hodge Hill (Saltley, International and Rockwood), have all appointed new Head Teachers over the last few months.

Over the last fortnight it's been a pleasure to drop by and meet them all - to ask what I can do to help them succeed.

Our teachers and pupils are working incredibly hard but I'm determined that we have the best school results that we can get.
