Byrne challenges Nicky Morgan to add 'compassion' to the official list of British values
Liam Byrne MP today challenged the Education Secretary Nicky Morgan to add 'compassion' to the official list of British values celebrated nationally and promoted in the nation's schools.
I thought I would share with you some figures from the House of Commons Library on unemployment in Hodge Hill which I’ve received today.
The total number of unemployed claimants in Birmingham, Hodge Hill constituency in September 2015 was 3,987.
This is 907 lower than in September 2014 but represents a rise of 31 when compared to August 2015.
Lots of people are asking me for my advice on the Labour leadership contest - and who we want as our next Labour Prime Minister - so my advice is simple: vote for Yvette Cooper for leader, and Tom Watson as deputy.

This morning OFFA, the fair access watchdog, has announced new access agreements with Universities which aim to ensure poor and disadvantage students are able to go to University.

In response to this announcement Liam Byrne MP, the Shadow Minister for Universities has made the following statement.
Yesterday Ofsted published its latest advice letter to the Secretary of State for Education on the latest position with schools in Birmingham (including Park View and other Hodge Hill schools) and Tower Hamlets.
The advice note sets out the progress being made at the schools, as well as highlighting wider safeguarding concerns which have been brought to light as a result of Ofsted’s ongoing monitoring of the situation.
Following the publication this morning of the report by Professor Baroness Alison Wolf: ‘Heading for the precipice: can further and higher education funding policies be sustained?’ which raises serious concerns about the funding of FE, please find below a statement from Labour’s Shadow Skills Minister Liam Byrne MP:
